CFMOTO Clutch Kit Buyer's Guide: CVTech vs OmniDrive

What Clutch Does My CFMOTO Have?

Before you buy any clutch kit, you need to know which CVT system is in your machine. CFMOTO has used two fundamentally different clutch designs across its lineup, and the parts are not interchangeable. Getting this wrong means returning parts and lost riding time.

Here is the simple breakdown. The older CFMOTO models, UForce 1000, ZForce 950, CForce 600/800/1000 (Gen 1 and Gen 2), and the ZForce 800, all use CVTech (Trailbloc) clutches. These are the same clutch architecture that CVTech supplies to several OEM manufacturers. The newer models, U10 Pro, Highland, Highland XL, and the Gen 3 CForce 800/1000, use the OmniDrive system, which is a completely different design with different internals, different tooling, and different tuning kits.

If you are not sure which generation your machine is, check the model year and VIN. Gen 3 CForce models started in 2024. The U10 Pro and Highland line launched with OmniDrive from day one. When in doubt, pull the CVT cover and look at the primary clutch, CVTech clutches have a visible Trailbloc stamp, while OmniDrive primaries have a distinct splined hub design.

CVTech (Trailbloc) Explained

CVTech clutches are the workhorse of the CFMOTO lineup. They use a traditional centrifugal design with weights, springs, and a helix in the secondary. The system is well-proven and has been used across the powersports industry for years. However, the stock CVTech calibration on CFMOTO machines is tuned conservatively from the factory, biased toward fuel economy and emissions compliance rather than outright performance.

This is where aftermarket clutch kits come in. A properly calibrated CVTech kit replaces the stock weights, springs, and helix with components designed to optimize belt engagement RPM, shift-out RPM, and backshift speed. The result is faster acceleration, reduced belt slip (which means less heat and longer belt life), and better throttle response across the RPM range.

RNG Performance offers multiple stages of CVTech kits. A Stage 1 kit is designed for machines at stock tire size with no major modifications, it corrects the factory calibration and gives you the performance the machine should have had from the dealer. Stage 2 and Stage 3 kits are calibrated for machines running larger tires, snorkels, or other weight-adding modifications that change the load on the drivetrain. Each stage uses different weight and spring combinations to match the added resistance.

OmniDrive Explained

OmniDrive is the newer clutch platform that CFMOTO has adopted for its latest models. It features a different mechanical design from CVTech, with a unique primary clutch construction that uses a different weight arm geometry and a different method of spring tension adjustment. The secondary clutch also differs, it uses a different helix angle and cam profile compared to CVTech secondaries.

The OmniDrive system requires specialized tools for removal and installation. You cannot use standard CVTech pullers or spreaders on an OmniDrive clutch. RNG Performance manufactures dedicated OmniDrive tooling, including the drive pulley remover and secondary spreader tool, specifically for these clutches.

Aftermarket OmniDrive kits from RNG Performance are calibrated for the specific torque curve and power characteristics of the engines paired with this clutch system. The U10 Pro kit, for example, is tuned for the 1000cc engine in work-and-trail duty, while the Gen 3 CForce 800/1000 kit addresses the different power delivery of those sport-oriented models.

Choosing the Right Kit for Your Riding Style

Your riding style and modifications determine which stage of kit you need. If your machine is bone stock, factory tires, no lift, no snorkel, a Stage 1 kit corrects the factory tuning and gives you noticeably better throttle response and acceleration. This is the right choice for most riders who want better performance without changing anything else.

If you have gone up in tire size (28 inches or larger), added a lift kit, or installed a snorkel and regularly ride in deep mud, you need a higher stage kit. Larger tires increase rotational mass and rolling resistance, which means the clutch needs to engage at a higher RPM and use heavier weights to maintain belt grip. A Stage 2 or Stage 3 kit is calibrated for these conditions.

Trail riders who want snappy throttle response but do not push hard in mud will be well served by a Stage 1 or Stage 2. Mud riders and racers running 30-inch-plus tires should look at Stage 3 kits or talk to our team about a custom build for their specific setup.
