How to Change Oil on Your CFMOTO UForce 1000

Published June 20, 2025

What You'll Need

Before you start, gather everything so you are not running to the parts store mid-job. The UForce 1000 uses approximately 3.2 quarts of oil (with filter change). CFMOTO specifies 10W-40 full synthetic UTV/ATV oil. Do not use automotive oil, UTV engines share oil with the transmission and need formulations designed for wet clutch applications. Automotive oils with friction modifiers can cause clutch slippage.

  • 3.5 quarts of 10W-40 full synthetic UTV oil (buy extra to account for what stays in the filter and passages)
  • OEM-spec oil filter, CFMOTO part number 0800-011300-0004 or equivalent (the RNG oil filter kit includes the filter and O-ring)
  • Replacement drain plug washer (crush washer)
  • 17mm socket for the drain plug
  • Oil filter wrench or large channel-lock pliers
  • Drain pan (5-quart minimum)
  • Funnel
  • Shop towels
  • Torque wrench

Step-by-Step Oil Change

Start by warming up the engine for 3-5 minutes. Warm oil flows faster and carries more contaminants out of the engine. Do not run it until it is fully hot, you will be working near the exhaust and engine cases.

Turn off the engine and place the machine on level ground. If you have a lift, use it, otherwise, the UForce 1000 has enough ground clearance to work underneath without jacking.

Locate the oil drain plug on the bottom of the engine case. Place your drain pan underneath and remove the drain plug with a 17mm socket. Let the oil drain completely, this takes 5-10 minutes. While it drains, remove the oil fill cap on top of the engine to allow air in and speed up drainage.

While the oil is draining, locate the oil filter. On the UForce 1000, the oil filter is on the right side of the engine. Use your filter wrench to remove the old filter. Some oil will spill from the filter housing, have a shop towel ready. Inspect the filter housing and clean any debris or old O-ring material from the sealing surface.

Install the new oil filter. Apply a thin film of fresh oil to the new filter's O-ring before installing. Hand-tighten the filter until the O-ring contacts the sealing surface, then turn an additional 3/4 turn by hand. Do not over-tighten, the O-ring does the sealing, not brute force.

Replace the drain plug with a new crush washer. Torque the drain plug to 20-25 ft-lbs. Do not overtighten, the engine case is aluminum and the threads will strip if you gorilla the bolt.

Fill with fresh oil through the fill cap. Add approximately 3.0 quarts first, then check the dipstick. Add oil in small increments until the level reaches the upper mark on the dipstick. Replace the fill cap.

Start the engine and let it idle for 2 minutes. This fills the new filter and circulates oil through the passages. Shut off the engine, wait 2 minutes for oil to settle back to the sump, and recheck the level. Top off as needed.

Check around the drain plug and filter for leaks. Wipe down any spilled oil and dispose of the used oil and filter at a recycling center, most auto parts stores accept used oil for free.

How Often to Change Oil

CFMOTO recommends oil changes every 100 hours of operation or once per season, whichever comes first. If you ride in dusty conditions, deep mud, or frequently tow heavy loads, shorten that interval to 50-75 hours. The oil in a UTV works harder than in a car, it lubricates the engine, cools the transmission, and bathes the wet clutch plates all at the same time.

New machines should have their first oil change at 20 hours (break-in service). This removes metal particles from manufacturing and initial wear. Do not skip the break-in oil change, it is the most important one your machine will ever get.

Why Use a Quality Oil Filter

The oil filter is not the place to save money. A cheap filter with poor media will let particles circulate through your engine and transmission, accelerating wear on bearings, gears, and clutch components. OEM-spec filters use the correct micron rating and flow rate for the CFMOTO oil system.

The RNG oil filter kit includes a high-quality filter that meets or exceeds OEM specifications, plus a fresh O-ring for the filter housing. The O-ring is often overlooked but it is a common source of leaks if reused, the old one gets compressed and hardened over time. Always replace it with the filter.
